[Movie Review Site]

For this assignment, you are going to write a servlet that implements an movie review web application, which allows users to post their ratings and reviews of movies.

(10pt) When the servlet is requested without any parameter, it displays a list of the movies currently managed by the application, including the average rating for each movie, as well as a link Add A Movie, which allows a user to add a movie if the movie the user wants to rate is not on the list. For example:

For this assignment, you need to have at least five movies. If the movie has not yet been rated by any user, the Avg. Rating column should show N/A.

(20pt) When a user clicks on the Add A Movie link, the servlet displays the following page which allows the user to add a movie:

After the user clicks the Add button, and if the movie is added successfully (i.e. the title of the movie is not empty and it's not a duplicate of an existing movie), the user is redirected back to the movie list page, where the newly added movie should be displayed.

(30pt) When a user clicks on one of the movies on the movie list, the servlet displays the ratings and reviews of the selected movie, which may look like the following:

What a pleasant surprise!! We laughed harder than our kids! Our son and daughter enjoyed it equally, which I was worried about at first because my 7 year old daughter isn't exactly into football. However, the little girl in this movie is so cute and hilarious that football played second fiddle to her. I really, really recommend taking your kids to this movie. It is good clean fun, and the PG rating actually surprised me. There's even a twist at the end that added a more serious dimension to an otherwise funny but predicatable movie. Enjoy it!!

This evening, I took my wife and son to this movie, fully expecting to suffer through poor acting on the part of the Rock, but that did not deter me. The movie itself was well written, and all actors "other than the Rock" performed very well. I walked out feeling very good about my choice of a family movie. There was no swearing, sexual innuendo, nor open alcohol usage. While I would usually wait for such a movie to come to DVD, I don't regret seeing this film as a family activity.

If you read a majority of the "Real" critics, sometimes you wouldn't see a movie. And I really don't know where they come from or what they expect. Take the movies at face value and who they are aimed at. The Game Plan in my opinion was well worth seeing. I was pleasantly surprised at the story line and acting. A good,clean,tasteful movie complete with the happy ending. Don't over analyze it just sit back and look for the humor and know that it will entertain the kids.

After the user clicks the Save button, the user is redirected back to the movie review page, where the newly added rating/review will be displayed.

[NOTES]

The easiest way to start writing this application (or any other web application for that matter), is to separate the business logic and the presentation part of the application, and start with the business logic. In particular, the business logic of this application may consist of the following classes: Movie, Feedback and User. Once you have completed these classes, the presentation part, which is the servlet, is quite straight-forward - simply create a few Movie objects as class variables of the servlet, and display or update the objects based on the HTTP requests.
Since we have not covered databases yet, the ratings and reviews may be lost after the servlet is unloaded or reloaded. That's ok for this assignment.
Our subsequent homework assignments will be built on top of this assignment, so make sure your design, especially the business logic part, is extensible.
Do not spend too much time beautifying the user interface - we will do that in later assignments when we use JSP.
