CS320 Self Evaluation Test
Spring 2005

CS320 is an advanced programming course that requires good Java programming skills. The sole purpose of this test is to allow you and your instructor to evaluate whether you are sufficiently prepared for the course. There's no "pass" or "fail" of the test, and the result of the test will not affect your enrollment status or grade in any way.

1. Create a new directory D:\Data\CS320S05 on your computer.

2. Download the text file quotes.txt, and save it under D:\Data\CS320S05.

3. Write a Java program that reads from quotes.txt, and output the stocks whose prices had gone down.

4. Upload your Java program using the turnin server.


If you finish the test in

• 15 minutes, you are in good shape. Welcome to the class.
• more than half an hour but less than 45 minutes, you are OK but your programming skill needs to be improved a bit. You may want to review your CS202 or CS203 materials, and get more familiar with the development tools on the lab machines.
• more than one hour, I would recommend you take the course later when you're more proficient in Java. The decision is up to you, but know that this is going to be a very difficult course for you.
